Soon, commuters in Gurgaon can book city bus through Uber Rajendra, April 28, 2022December 3, 2023 Commuters in Gurgaon will soon have the convenience of booking Gurugaman city bus services through the Uber app. The Board of Directors of Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Services Private Limited (GMCBL) has approved the launch of a special bus service that allows passengers to reserve rides using the Uber app. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sudhir Rajpal, the CEO of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and chairperson of GMCBL. The innovative bus service will initially undergo a nine-month pilot phase, featuring two buses operating on two routes: Badshahpur Bus Stand to Huda City Centre Metro Station and BPTP Astaire Garden Sector 70 to DLF Cyber Park Shankar Chowk. According to officials, Uber’s app will facilitate seat reservations for the bus, marking a pioneering service in the country. The bus service will operate from 7 am to 12 noon and from 3 pm to 8 pm on the specified routes. Each bus will complete three round trips in both the morning and evening, with a one-hour frequency between departures, considering a 2-hour turn-around time for each bus. CEO GMDA Sudhir Rajpal expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with Uber, stating that reserving seats in Gurugaman buses through the Uber app will be a unique milestone not only for the city but for the entire country. The initiative aims to provide commuters with ease of booking and faster travel, encouraging residents to opt for public transport, thereby reducing overall traffic congestion and contributing to a cleaner environment. GMCBL currently operates 150 buses in the city, with an additional fleet of 100 buses in the procurement process.
